Jakarta, en.SERU.co.id – From humble parking-lot training in Gunungkidul, Indonesia, Veda Ega Pratama has risen to the global stage. The young Moto3 rider achieved a landmark third-place finish at the 2026 Brazilian Grand Prix, becoming the first Indonesian ever to reach a podium in the Moto3 World Championship class. His result adds 16 points, propelling him to third in the provisional 2026 Moto3 standings.

Rising from 10th Place

Veda delivered an impressive performance in the final three laps. Mid-race, he dropped to 10th, but he fought back aggressively, overtaking several riders to secure his maiden Grand Prix podium.

The race was red-flagged after leader David Almansa crashed. On the restart, Maximo Quiles dominated to win, followed by Marco Morelli in second. Veda showed calm consistency, steadily advancing until crossing the line third on the final lap.

Moto3 2026 Standings After Brazilian GP

  2. Marco Morelli – 28 points
  3. Veda Ega Pratama – 27 points
  4. Alvaro Carpe – 26 points
  5. David Almansa – 25 points
Respecting Principles: No Champagne Celebration

What made the podium even more memorable was Veda’s choice to step aside during the champagne spray. As a Muslim, he avoided contact with alcohol, quietly moving backstage. After the celebration ended, he rejoined the others to mark the moment in his own way. The gesture earned widespread admiration.

From Simple Beginnings to Global Dreams

Veda’s passion for racing started in his family. As a child, he watched his father train and compete, igniting his love for motorsport. Early practice took place in a basic market parking lot in Gunungkidul on a mini GP bike gifted by his dad.

From his father, Veda learned discipline and courage. He initially pursued motocross before shifting to road racing, which his father saw as a stronger path to professionalism.

At age nine, Veda passed the 2018 Astra Honda Racing School (AHRS) selection. There, he honed technical skills, race strategy, and mental toughness. This blend of family guidance and formal training accelerated his growth.

His talent shone in Asia with the 2023 Idemitsu Asia Talent Cup title—the first for an Indonesian. In 2025, he impressed in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup, securing three wins, consecutive victories at Mugello, and runner-up with 181 points.

This form earned him elite Red Bull support—the only Asian rider backed directly by the energy drink giant. (aan/rhd)
