Jember, en.SERU.co.id – The Regent of Jember set a real-life example of fuel efficiency (BBM, or oil fuel) during the Ramadan Safari agenda in Ledokombo Subdistrict. He brought along the heads of Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPD) in a single minibus to reduce fuel consumption expenses.
Jember Regent Muhammad Fawait stated that this step follows the central government’s directive on energy conservation and optimizing official travel budgets. He emphasized that using one shared vehicle is not just for show, but a genuine response to global economic conditions.
“The goal is simply to follow the President’s directive for efficiency. We know that global oil prices are currently fluctuating,” exclaimed Gus Fawait—his familiar nickname—on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.
Although the national fuel stock remains secure, he highlighted the heavy subsidy burden borne by the state. In particular, energy use must be well-controlled. As part of local government, Jember should contribute to maintaining national fiscal stability.
“Therefore, as good citizens, we must think about the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI). Today, we depart together for the sake of efficiency,” he said.
Beyond the efficiency agenda, this Ramadan Safari served as a warm dialogue space between the Regent and Posyandu cadres, as well as local RT/RW leaders. Gus Fawait encouraged the public not to hesitate in reporting any issues related to public services. For him, the voice of the people is the most effective oversight tool for local government.
“If there are more and more complaints, I won’t feel disheartened. Instead, I’m happy. It means the community is helping me monitor public services in Jember Regency,” he explained.
“We believe that active citizen participation will accelerate the detection of problems on the ground, allowing improvements in service quality to be made more responsively,” he concluded. (sgt/rhd)
