KPK Detains Cilacap Regent in Major Sting Operation Over Alleged Project Bribery

Jakarta, en.SERU.co.id – Indonesia’s Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) conducted a sting operation (Operasi Tangkap Tangan or OTT) in Cilacap Regency, Central Java, on Friday, March 13, 2026, detaining 27 individuals, including Regent (Bupati) Syamsul Auliya Rachman and Regional Secretary (Sekda) Sadmoko Danardono (also reported as Satmoko Danardono).

KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo confirmed that the suspects were secured during the operation, with 13 individuals—including the Regent, Secretary, and several structural officials from the Cilacap Regency Government—transported to the KPK’s Red and White Building in Jakarta for intensive questioning.

Alleged Link to Government Project Bribery

The arrests are believed to stem from alleged bribery and extortion practices related to government projects in Cilacap Regency. Investigators seized cash as physical evidence, though the exact amount is still being calculated.

“Among the evidence secured is cash, but the precise total is still under calculation by investigators,” Budi added.

Following initial examinations, KPK named two suspects: Bupati Syamsul Auliya Rachman and Sekda Sadmoko Danardono, in connection with the alleged receipt of funds from district projects.

Regent’s Reported Wealth: Rp12 Billion

According to the latest Public Officials’ Wealth Report (LHKPN) submitted on January 19, 2026, Syamsul Auliya Rachman declared total assets of Rp12,039,790,782 (approximately Rp12 billion). The majority comes from land and buildings in Cilacap valued at Rp8.15 billion.

Other assets include:

  • Two four-wheeled vehicles totaling Rp1.4 billion: a 2021 Toyota minibus (Rp900 million) and a 2024 Toyota SUV (Rp500 million), acquired from personal income.
  • Movable assets worth Rp360 million.
  • Cash and cash equivalents: Rp1.29 billion.
  • Other assets: Rp1.05 billion.
  • Liabilities: Rp215.6 million.
Career Background

Born in Cilacap on November 30, 1985, Syamsul completed his primary and secondary education locally before graduating from the Institute of Domestic Government (IPDN) in 2008.

His career began in 2012 as Head of the Peace and Public Order Section in Kedungreja Subdistrict. In 2013, he served as Head of the Regional Autonomy and Cooperation Subdivision in the Cilacap Regency Government Division.

He entered politics and was elected Vice Regent of Cilacap for 2017–2022. In the subsequent election, he won the regent position for the 2025–2030 term, serving alongside Deputy Regent Ammy Amalia Fatma Surya.

This OTT marks KPK’s ninth in 2026 and the third during Ramadhan 1447 H, highlighting ongoing efforts to combat corruption in regional governance. Investigations continue, with potential further developments expected. (aan/rhd)
