Malang, en.SERU.co.id – PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Regional Operation 8 Surabaya projects it will serve 5,310 passengers in the Malang Raya area on the second day of the 2026 Eid al-Fitr Transport Period (Angkutan Lebaran). This total comprises 3,285 boarding passengers and 2,025 alighting passengers across various stations in the Malang Raya region. A 30% ticket discount remains available in limited quantities.

Public Relations Manager of KAI Daop 8 Surabaya, Mahendro Trang Bawono, stated that community mobility using train transportation has shown an increase since the beginning of the Lebaran transport period.

“On the second day of the 2026 Lebaran Transport Period, KAI Daop 8 Surabaya projects serving approximately 5,310 passengers in the Malang Raya area. This figure remains dynamic and is expected to continue growing until late evening, in line with ongoing train departures,” Mahendro said.

As of March 12, 2026, long-distance train ticket sales from the Malang area have reached 61,254 tickets, equivalent to about 45% of the total 136,045 seats provided for departures between March 11 and April 1, 2026.

According to booking data, Malang Station leads with the highest number of reservations at 51,059 tickets, followed by Kepanjen Station with 4,608 tickets, Malang Kotabaru Station with 3,545 tickets, and Lawang and Sumberpucung Stations combined with a total of 2,042 tickets.

KAI Introduces 30% Ticket Discount

To support public mobility during the Lebaran period, the government has launched a 30% ticket discount program applicable to commercial economy-class trains from March 14 to 29, 2026.

“In the Malang Raya region, 46,848 discounted tickets are available. To date, 31,663 tickets—or approximately 67%—have been sold, leaving 15,185 discounted tickets still available for the public,” he explained.

Mahendro added that the program is intended to provide a more affordable travel option for those planning to return home (mudik) by train.

“This discount initiative gives the public an opportunity to purchase train tickets at more economical prices while still enjoying safe, comfortable, and punctual transportation services,” he clarified.

Peak Mudik Period Expected March 17–19, 2026

Based on preliminary sales data, March 17 to 19, 2026, is forecasted to be the peak outbound mudik period in the Daop 8 Surabaya region, including Malang Raya.

To meet the high travel demand during the 2026 Lebaran Transport Period, Malang Station is operating 13 long-distance train services daily, consisting of 11 regular trains and 2 additional trains.

KAI Daop 8 Surabaya urges the public planning to travel for mudik by train to book tickets as soon as possible through official KAI sales channels.

“We strongly encourage those intending to mudik by train to book tickets immediately via official KAI channels. If the desired departure date is approaching full capacity, passengers can consider alternative travel dates or utilize connecting train options to maintain greater flexibility in their journey plans,” he emphasized.
