Batu, en.SERU.co.id – To commemorate International Tourist Guide Day (ITGD) 2026, the Batu City Branch of the Indonesian Tourist Guides Association (DPC HPI Kota Batu) is organizing the “Batu Heritage Walking Tour.” Timed to coincide with ITGD on February 21, this event creatively combines historical observation with the traditional “Ngabuburit” practice of waiting for iftar during Ramadan.
Asep Abianto SPsi, Chairman of DPC HPI Batu, explained that the tour goes beyond ordinary sightseeing—it’s a movement to rediscover and highlight the city’s historical assets. Drawing on archival data, professional certified guides invite fellow guides and the general public to visit colonial-era buildings around Batu’s central Alun-alun square.
“There are many historic structures near Alun-alun Kota Batu with rich stories to share with visitors—no need to travel far. After the tour, participants can head straight to nearby spots for communal iftar,” Asep enthusiastically shared.
The main focus is observing Dutch colonial buildings worthy of preservation. Participants are encouraged to capture creative social media content (“Ngonten Bareng”) to retell these historical narratives to younger generations.
The event features two route categories: Short City Route and Long City Route, running over three consecutive weekends. The full schedule includes:
- Week 1: Saturday & Sunday, February 21 & 22, 2026 (Long Route)
- Week 2: Saturday & Sunday, February 28 & March 1, 2026 (Short & Long Routes)
- Week 3: Saturday & Sunday, March 7 & 8, 2026 (Short & Long Routes)
Sobat Walkerage
Guided by certified narrators, participants will walk several kilometers while enjoying engaging stories, turning the wait for iftar into an informative and enjoyable outing.
Asep invites all “Sobat Walkerage” (walking tour enthusiasts) and history lovers to join. The initiative aims to raise public awareness about preserving cultural heritage amid Batu’s rapid development as a modern tourism city.
“Those interested in this “Ngabuburit Heritage” adventure can follow updates via DPC HPI Batu’s official channels or simply gather at Alun-alun Kota Batu on the scheduled dates,” he said. (dik/mzm)
