Malang, SERU.co.id – In 2025, 24,000 international tourists visited the natural attraction of Coban Sewu Waterfall, located precisely in Dusun Wonokerso, Desa Sidorenggo, Kecamatan Ampelgading, Malang Regency.
Firmando H. Matondang, Head of the Malang Regency Tourism and Culture Office (Disparbud), explained that Coban Sewu is a prime destination for foreign tourists. Visits from abroad, particularly from China, are notably high.
“In 2025, foreign tourists alone numbered 24,000 visitors. Overall tourist arrivals in Malang Regency for that year exceeded 5 million. Among the 51,000 foreign tourists, 24,000 of them went to Coban Sewu,” Firmando stated when confirmed.
He further explained that this flagship natural site, which showcases the beauty of its waterfalls, is well-known among international visitors. It requires proper management to ensure safety and comfort for every guest.
“Indeed, the natural aspects pose a very high risk. This is something we need to note for the future, regarding how to provide ease and comfort for tourists. That’s why this is our focus—to work together soon, hopefully with a cooperation agreement (PKS), so that any conflicts at the grassroots level can be resolved at the government level,” he elaborated.
Firmando mentioned that if the Gondanglegi-Bantur road construction project is completed according to the established plan, an increase in visitor numbers will certainly be achieved more easily.
“If the Gondanglegi-Bantur road is cleared as stated by the Head of the Public Works Department by the end of 2026, I’m confident that in 2027, reaching 6 million tourists won’t be difficult,” said the former Head of the Civil Service Police Unit.
He added that easier access for tourists to the Coban Sewu natural site must be accompanied by preparedness from the destination managers, including facilities, convenience, security, comfort, and other aspects.
Firmando also noted that foreign tourists at Coban Sewu dominate compared to local visitors.
“It’s high, but there are more foreign tourists than locals, especially from China,” Firmando concluded.
For information, Coban Sewu charges an entry fee of Rp20,000 for local tourists and Rp50,000 for international tourists. These prices include safety insurance for visitors. (wul/ono)
