Malang, en.SERU.co.id – Hundreds of locals crowded Depot Pilihan Rakyat (DPR) in the Ciliwung area of Malang City on Saturday afternoon, January 31, 2026. The new eatery quickly became a hot topic by promising to delight taste buds with familiar, comforting flavors at pocket-friendly prices.
Owner Fernando Jayapranata explained that the depot aims to serve local cuisine in a fresh, non-boring way. The menu features everyday dishes that feel like home—familiar, hearty portions, and affordable for regular enjoyment.
“Our concept is everyday food you can eat often without getting tired of it. We focus on comfort food that’s truly people-friendly in both taste and price,” Fernando said.
The name “Depot Pilihan Rakyat” (People’s Choice Depot) reflects their mission to stay close to the community. The strategic location on Jalan Ciliwung was chosen for its proximity to residential neighborhoods, offices, and tourist routes.
“We truly want to become the People’s Choice Depot. Customer satisfaction is our top priority. So they’ll always miss coming back,” he added.
Around 20 menu items are available, priced from Rp18,000 to Rp28,000.
One standout favorite is the Nasi Daging US Beef, made with high-quality imported American shortplate beef. The complete package includes rice, a fried egg, and crispy spinach—delivering instant satisfaction and fullness.
Open Kitchen
To build trust and comfort, DPR features an open kitchen concept, allowing customers to watch the food preparation process firsthand as proof of cleanliness and quality standards.
The depot offers seating for 150–200 people. Making it ideal for casual meals, family or friend gatherings, business meetings, or even collective iftar during Ramadan.
For the grand opening, DPR ran an attractive promotion: buy one main menu item and get one free snack (Tahu Gejrot or Caramelized Banana). The offer was valid only during the two-day launch on Friday–Saturday (January 30–31, 2026).
Looking ahead, they plan to introduce budget combo packages, trio deals, and special Ramadan menu items that are currently under wraps.
Depot Pilihan Rakyat operates daily from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM WIB, extending to 11:00 PM on weekends. Future plans include earlier opening hours.
“We prioritize hygiene and halal standards above all. Halal certification is in process, and our open kitchen lets everyone see our cleanliness commitment directly,” Fernando emphasized.
