Batu, en.SERU.co.id — The ornamental plant trend at the start of 2026 reveals a noticeable shift. After several years dominated by variegated varieties, collectors’ attention has turned to Anthurium Hookeri and Obor Pink, which have become the most sought-after plants.

This surge in demand is being felt firsthand by ornamental plant growers and sellers, including Erick Hadi Wijaya (40), a farmer and entrepreneur from Tlekung Village, Junrejo District.

According to Erick, interest in Anthurium Hookeri and Obor Pink began rising toward the end of last year and has intensified significantly in early 2026.

“The demand at the beginning of this year has been extraordinary,” Erick told SERU.co.id during a visit to his garden.

“Collectors are now looking for plants that are not only beautiful but also highly resilient. Both Anthurium Hookeri and Obor Pink perfectly fit those criteria,” he added.

When asked about the reasons behind the sudden popularity of these two species, Erick admitted he isn’t entirely sure of the exact cause.

However, he noted that Anthurium Hookeri is renowned for its imposing stature and thick, sturdy leaves, while Obor Pink stands out with its vibrant, glowing pink-to-red gradient coloration.

“Both plants align very well with the current preference for minimalist yet characterful interior decoration,” he explained.

In response to the skyrocketing trend, Erick has redirected a large portion of his production toward propagating these two varieties.

Every day, he focuses on accelerating the seedling process and separating offsets to keep up with orders and avoid missing the market momentum.

“I’ve also started shipping seedlings to various cities through online sales, especially to fellow enthusiasts and fellow ornamental plant farmers,” said Erick, who is also an avid fan of singing birds.

He expressed hope that this rising trend will continue to stimulate the local economy, particularly in the high-quality ornamental plant sector for which Batu City is well known.

“I hope this trend keeps improving so our businesses can grow and better support our families’ needs,” he concluded. (dik/mzm)
